Roundup #1
I'm a changed man.
It’s been just over a week since I launched this little project and I’ve been quite astonished.
Astonished by the fact that you are reading this, and so are other people. This blows my mind
Astonished by how freeing this platform is in allowing me to create the way I want to and not just for algorithm food.
And astonished by how much I enjoy it.
I no longer feel like I’m creating contrived content for contents sake. I’m creating what I want, as I would do anyway, and then sharing it with those who are interested.
When I first made this Substack I was well aware that it meant me directly contributing to people’s inboxes. That means a part of your day, and your continuously-competed-for attention was dedicated to reading what I sent you.
That actually scares me a little.
So the promise I made to myself, and now to you, was that I would only send emails when its contents were of a real value to you and not just me showing off.
Not everything I create is worthy of that by itself. But, seen collectively, you can decide for yourself which bits do interest you. And that’s what these roundups are for; a summary of what I’ve posted over the previous week or so, including what won’t have been emailed to you.
Here we go:
I’ve just rolled out the intro edition of a new section dedicated to musicians. I’ve kept it a separate subscription as it won’t appeal to everyone.
If you’re making podcasts, this is something I like to keep handy. A slightly different, more interesting way to approach podcasting. I’ve also released a couple of new episodes.
I created a song for my wife on our wedding day
If learning how to play guitar and write songs for 15 years was all pointing to this moment, then I can happily say it was all worth it. A song that was written to only ever to be played once, for one person. Every now and again you create something that you really are chuffed with. This was one of those times.
And the most popular post has undoubtedly been the Soundquake story:
Here’s the best bit….
A good friend told me this substack has encouraged him to get back on his newsletter again. That makes me smile; his newsletter is great.
As ever, thank you for being here and humouring me.

Couldn’t agree more! The unknown, the void of creation as I call it is the perfect place for incubation. That’s exactly where I’m at!
As for “Creating for myself” - I’m a firm believer that whatever we bring into this world is the result of our own experience of being and experiencing life. Like Chiron the wounded healer our “medicine” whether it be actual healing or words or inspiration or art or business or whatever is the fruit of our creation it was initially for ourselves and as we serve ourselves we serve the world around us that resonates with it/ our story/ our”medicine”. It’s not for everyone and first and foremost it’s for ourselves, this way it can only be authentic ✨
Nice! Well done on launching your project! I just did mine too and reflected upon the fact that this act of creation is for myself first and foremost, I’ve been feeling so inspired to write that I’ve birthed almost two articles daily since so thought I’d pace myself and schedule them every other day, only emailing once a week and agree on your approach to only email value. I’ve selected my “one a week” based on what I assume is most useful to readers. Is it me or does Substack feel like a public “diary”? Maybe I’m not using it right 😂🙃
